After the silent launch of Web 2.0, a stunning presentation in this forum about Identity 2.0, now we have Travel 2.0.

It has been around for a while now but I had personally never heard of Travel 2.0 but have become very interested by the concept over the past hours. This is also due to the 50-website assignment for TQM. Roel and I noticed that the first contact with the customer, the website, even for 5 star hotels is not taken into the product offering. Many websites have some major improvement to undergo. Travel 2.0 builds on the basic website and adds the experience factor. For more information, please google the concept and be amazed..

Actually, I have just subscribed to the Travel 2.0 group on the WIWIH (Who Is Who In Hospitality) website. You should do the same, if interested, there are 900 + members and lots of interesting discussion topics.

It is the analogy with Web 2.0
Worldwide web used to be top-bottom (you went to the web to check for the information, which was there), now it is going bottom-up (you put the information on the web). That is why it is called Web version 2.0: blogs, MySpace, Hyves, Facebook etc.

Travel 2.0 is the new way of dealing with the electronic distribution. As they put it on wiwih.com: "a new, interactive approach to travel technologies".

GREAT to see some enthusiasm for Travel 2.0!

For those interested I am doing a seminar series about travel 2.0 with Xotels next year. As it looks now there are about 14 cities where I will be speaking. The cost is 495/ 595... but maybe I can convince Hotel School Maastricht to do a special seminar for you...
more details here

Also after your first assignment I will start sharing some more info about Travel 2.0 for discussion.

I agree with you that it would be great to set up an special seminar about this topic.

If you could fit a visit to the beautiful city of Maastricht into your schedule and we could have a session about Travel 2.0, this would be greatly appreciated.

//All

This morning Roel and I had a talk with the GM of the Hilton Hotel in Barcelona (still left over from Case Feasibility, but it never hurts to talk to GM's and gain insight). He did not see the website/ sub page of Hilton Barcelona as a first step of the total experience. In a Hilton managed hotel, this seems of less importance.

The Mission of Hilton boils down to being the number 1 choice for business guest in the world. Please find their vision below.

At Hilton International, we strive for high standards of performance and advocate socially and environmentally responsible business practice throughout our global operations.

Our aim is to bring a positive benefit to the societies in which we operate, through high quality services, economic growth, environmental management, community involvement and, of course, employment.

With this, travel 2.0 can provide substantial added value for hotels that provide quality for the mass. Experiences/photo's are shared and well managed hotels become better. The ones that do not provide the quality asked for by the target group are punished immediately.

The MGM Grand in Vegas understands it's customer and thinking out-of-the-box. They created a movie in which a virtual tour is given through the hotel.

I propose that only with the mass quality and also the experience hotels, Travel 2.0 can be a difference. An example of the latter is the Burj-al-Arab and MGM Grand..

Understanding that is very "schraal" to reply to your own post, I just wanted to ask you how you all perceive Travel 2.0 now, after having learned the value of experiences in the online context, in the classes of e-distribution.

I would be really interested in a seminar on this subject! I hope others with me share this interest and it will be possible to host a session on the Hotel Management School Maastricht.

Hi guys,

for those spanish speaking there is an interesting website called Turismo 2.0 that groups spanish speakers around Travel 2.0.

It is an excellent networking tool.

Check it out: www.turismo20.com

Thank you Daniela for sharing this!

Last year I noticed how this active group pulled together all Spanish (turismo) Bloggers. They even put them all on the map. To illustrate the power of one of the central technologies in the web20 world (RRS) I provided this group with a GEO-coded RSS feed that then could be placed on any website.
--> I even added it to this site (click here)

In short I also would strongly encourage the Spanish speakers to check out this group!

FYI it is interesting to note the progression of technologies used for collaboration.
This group Turismo20 used to be a Google Group now they are using the webservice www.ning.com
This webservice lets anybody create a online community! (for free)
We have moved from USENET '70/'80s -> Google Groups 90's -> Online Communities...this decade
