Isn't it possible to use the chat room differently? I had a discussion with Laura about not using it at the moment! Because u can see people being on-line, but you cannot speak with them on-line unless they have entered the chat room. Maybe we can add some tool that we can just click on the name of the person and start a conversation?

Yes I think that that is possible. Now we need to figure out how we could maybe do this.

I believe they call this a "shoutbox".
The software we have used to make this website is called Joomla so maybe you can do some searching around. The I will gladly participate in the conversation and help guide to get to the best solution

Yes I agree with you that it would be very functional to make the chat option on the website "shout box" so that you can chat with the online persons immediately.

I followed your advise Bart-Jan and looked on the Joomla page. There is a "AJAX shoutbox" download there (this is a Joomla module, an extension of the already existing website) that adds live chat functionality to your Joomla site. The visitors can chat with each other right in the website without refreshing their browsers. It's almost like chatting on an instant messenging network. It's all powered by AJAX, a hot new old technology that powers things like Gmail, Google Maps and other brilliant web apps. By downloading this we can get a piece of all this in the alumni site. Installing instructions are that you install the component and module inside the zip file.

Maybe this is a suggestion, so I will also bring it to the attention of the people in the homepage group.

Hey guys!has someone discovered how to install the direct chat?like this we could speak directly with the people who are at the same time on line.I was also looking to the webpage that Jan Bart recommended but I really don't know how to do it.
